St. Mary's School, Biratnagar was established in 2008. It is under the management of the sisters of the Institute of the blessed Virgin Mary (officially recognized as "The congregation of Jesus") founded by an English lady, Mary Ward, in 1609. It is an international institution especially devoted to the education of youth.

The institution is open to girls of all communities, irrespective of status, caste, creed and religion. The school imparts not only integrated personality by developing in them a strong character, love of truth, respect, loyalty, a sense of justice and the necessity for honest hard work.

Vision of Education

We, the Mary Ward women in the education ministry, keeping Jesus as our model, aim at forming fearless and vibrant citizens, who are able to face the challenges of life.

Believing that education is a powerful agent of social transformation, we move towards the empowerment of women and formation of students inculcating in them a sense of justice religious tolerance, compassion and love.

Making them aware of the value system of the world in which they live in, they are enabled to analyse it critically and make responsible decisions for themselves.

They are led to appreciate God’s creation, value life, human dignity and potential and thus to pursue fullness of life.

Principal’s Message

“The whole object of education is to develop the mind. The mind should be a thing that works”, says Sherwood Anderson, an American novelist and short story writer. Education harnesses the mind and focuses it towards a fixed target and we, the CJ sisters strive to do it through our St. Mary’s Schools.

CJ vision of education is drawn from the life and teaching of Jesus Christ, the greatest teacher. It is also based  on the vision of our Foundress, Mother Mary Ward – form fearless and vibrant citizens who are able to face the challenges of life.To achieve this specific character of our education, along with the academic studies, physical training, social and cultural activities and other extra curricular activities are given adequate place which make our students disciplined and worthy citizens. Value education taught to all students aims at inculcating in them right values and attitudes.

The staff, students and parents of St. Mary’s Schools imbibe the special character of our education and they are inspired to continually strive for it. As I thank you all for your continuous support and co – operation, I request all our well wishers to join us in our noble endeavor, so that together we can build up a better Nepal.

I would like to wind up in the words of George Savile,  an English statesman and author, “Education is what remains when we have forgotten all that we have been taught.”
