Nepal Stock Exchange

Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE), established in 1993 and commencing operations in 1994, is the sole stock exchange in Nepal. It provides a platform for buying and selling stocks of listed companies, thereby playing a pivotal role in the country's financial market. The exchange is located in Kathmandu and is regulated by the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON).

NEPSE facilitates capital formation by allowing companies to raise funds through the issuance of shares, while providing investors with an organized marketplace for trading securities. The exchange lists a diverse range of companies from various sectors, including banking, insurance, manufacturing, and hydropower. This diversity helps investors to diversify their portfolios and manage risk more effectively. NEPSE's role in ensuring transparency and efficiency in trading is crucial for the development of Nepal's financial market.

NEPSE plays a crucial role in the country's financial market by facilitating capital formation and providing a transparent and efficient mechanism for price discovery. The exchange lists companies from various sectors, including banking, insurance, manufacturing, and hydropower, among others.

The basic objective of NEPSE is to impart free marketability and liquidity to the government and corporate securities by facilitating transactions in its trading floor through members and market intermediaries, such as brokers, market makers, etc. Individuals can open trading account from broker and trade from the broker's website. As of August 2024, 244 companies are listed on the exchange, from different Industry Sectors like BFIs, Hydro-Power, Manufacturing, Life and Non-Life Insurance, Hotels and Tourism, etc. The Exchange has 92 registered brokers as of September 2024.
