Inaruwa is a municipality and headquarters of Sunsari District located 25 km (16 mi) east of the Koshi Barrage and 18.6 km (11.6 mi) east of Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve in Province No. 1, Nepal. It covers an area of 77.92 km2 (30.09 sq mi).

Inaruwa is named from the Nepali word ???? which means well(water source).It merged with the adjoining villages; Babiya, Jalpapur,Dumraha and Madhesa. District Development Offices, District Police Headquarters and other District Administration Offices lies here.

As per 2011 population census, Inaruwa Municipality had total 63,593 population with 31,195 males and 32,398 females. Out of total wards, ward number 9 had the largest population 8,526, while ward number 5 had least number of population with 8,526.

With respect to number of households, Inaruwa Municipality had total 13,020 households. The ward number 3 had most households with total 1,721, while ward number 10 had least number of households with total 1,066 number of households.

Inaruwa has 31 schools, of which 10 are public and 21 are private. Educational institutions are available for playgroup, primary, secondary and higher education. Inaruwa has 6 collages for UG and PG Education.

Inaruwa lies on the Mahendra Highway and acts as a transport hub between surrounding villages and the cities of Itahari, Biratnagar and Jhumka with Roadways. The nearest airport is Biratnagar Airport, 25.4 km (15.8 mi) away.

Inaruwa District Hospital is the major healthcare centre, in addition to a few other private hospitals and clinics.

The town hosts national-level sports and tournaments every year, and has hosted many sport tournaments, mainly cricket and football, including the President Gold Cup, Manmohan Smirti Cup,and Sunsari Premier League.

In the winter season, the temperature of Inaruwa is 10–18 ?, it increases to 30–42 ? during the summer season.[8][9] About 2007 mm of precipitation falls annually. There is 4 mm of precipitation in December. In July, the precipitation reaches its peak, with an average of 571 mm.
