The Heldung Distribution Center is one of the offices under the NEA’s regional operations in Karnali Province, headquartered in Surkhet. It serves as a key node in the electricity distribution network across several remote districts, including Humla, Dolpa, and Jumla. It provides contact outreach and operational support to the surrounding communities and local power infrastructure.
Historically, Heldung has faced operational challenges—most notably, in December 2024, when a prolonged outage affected the village of Yanggu in Humla. Local households lost power for over a week due to a fault on a line from the Heldung Distribution Center. Despite repeated requests, the restoration was significantly delayed, forcing residents to rely on pine-needle fires for lighting and highlighting gaps in responsiveness and maintenance systems.
