Gamgad Distribution Center
Gamgadhi town-12, Chhayanath Rara Municipality, Mugu, Karnali Pradesh087-660047
The Gamgad Distribution Centre, located in Gamgadhi (Mugu District), is a key hub of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) under the Karnali Province Distribution and Consumer Services Directorate. It oversees electricity distribution in Mugu, serving approximately 3,500 household consumers, and is reachable via phone at 087660047.
The centre plays a pivotal role in operations related to the Gamgad Small Hydropower Project, a 400kW facility (two 200kW units) constructed in 2017 to generate local electricity. The facility’s infrastructure includes intake structures, penstock pipelines, powerhouse, switchyard, and transmission lines to the local grid.
The NEA has since extended a 33kV transmission line over roughly 85km-tapping at Nagma—to connect Mugu district to Nepal’s national grid, integrating it among 76 of the country’s 77 districts to date.
Beyond generation, the Gamgad Distribution Centre has been involved in significant infrastructure upgrades, including protective works around hydraulic canals, recovery from flood damage, and ongoing LT line extension projects in areas like Chhayanath Rara Municipality–12 to enhance local connectivity and resilience.
